A2ENHotel Check-In: This Isn’t the Room I Booked
Practise polite requests and essential hotel phrases — I'd like to..., Could you...?, Is breakfast included? — through a check-in that goes wrong. The hotel is full, the Wi-Fi doesn't work, and the suite with a sea view is suddenly a small room next to the lift. Check in, complain politely and get what you paid for. A practical A2 English lesson on hotel vocabulary, polite requests and solving problems while travelling. Ideal for adult learners, English tutors, and language schools.

The Sea View Hotel, 9 pm, Friday. It's high season and the hotel is full. Guests are arriving after a long trip — tired and hungry. But some rooms aren't what they booked... Receptionist Ana
You work at the reception desk. Check in every guest: ask for their name, dates and room type, give them the form and the key.
Secret goal: Your mission: check in all guests quickly and keep everyone happy. Secret: you made a mistake — Ms Clark booked a suite with a sea view, but you gave her a single room next to the lift. Don't tell her it was your mistake! The manager can help you, but you don't want him to know about it.
Guest Ms Clark
You're on holiday with your husband. You booked a suite with a sea view for 3 nights. You're very tired after a 10-hour flight.
Secret goal: Your mission: get the suite with a sea view — you paid for it! Ask about breakfast and check-out time too. Be polite, but don't accept the small room. If they can't give you a suite, ask for something extra: free breakfast? a free spa ticket?
Guest Mr Lee
You're on a business trip. You booked a single room for 2 nights. You have an important online meeting at 7 am tomorrow.
Secret goal: Your mission: you need a quiet room and fast Wi-Fi. Problem: the Wi-Fi in your room doesn't work, and there's a loud party next door. Ask to change rooms. Secret: you write hotel reviews online. If you're unhappy, you'll write a bad review — but don't say it at first.
Manager Mr Bell
You are the manager of the Sea View Hotel. You help the receptionist with difficult guests.
Secret goal: Secret: the hotel is full. You have only ONE free room — the Royal Suite with a sea view. You can give it to only one guest. You can also offer free breakfast or a free spa ticket. Decide who gets what — and find out who made the booking mistake.
